Why we must cleanse our skin
It seems pretty obvious that we need to cleanse our skin every single day, but why exactly should we do that? Well, our skin constantly releases oils, and the dust from the polluted air settles on the surface of the skin. Plus, if you use makeup or skincare products, they usually do not get 100% absorbed into your skin, meaning some of them remain on the surface, and in the case of makeup, all of it remains on the surface. Therefore, if we do not carefully remove it, we will end up with clogged pores and in some cases even acne. Of course, we do not want that, which is why we wash up every day. However, did you know that in some cases just washup is not enough? Moreover, you have to use proper soap every single time because just water will not clean your skin? If you struggle to answer these simple questions, you must learn some tips on cleansing your skin. So let us proceed to those.
Skin-cleansing tips
Propper skin cleansing will help you get clear and glowy skin as well as avoid such unpleasant problems as blocked pores or acne. So let us take a look at some simple yet working skin-cleansing tips for everyone.
Do it regularly
First things first, you need to understand that you have to cleanse your skin regularly, which is every single day - morning and night. This is perhaps the most important thing you need to remember because regularity is the key to success in any beauty routine. Ideally, you have to wash up using a gentle soap in the morning (prior to applying any skincare products and makeup) and before going to bed. That’s not too often, and you can easily fit it into your daily schedule, so make sure to follow this simple rule.
Make sure to thoroughly remove makeup
Another important thing is to thoroughly remove your makeup. You see, some people think that washing their face with some soap is enough to remove all makeup. Well, that’s not exactly true. Although soap does remove a significant amount of makeup, it doesn’t remove all of it, especially in the eye area. You can easily check it by wiping your face with some makeup remover after washing it with soap - some foundation, eyeshadow, or mascara will definitely end up on the cotton pad. This is why we recommend removing your makeup using micellar water and then washing your face with gentle soap. This way, you will properly clean your skin from any makeup.
Wash your face after using micellar water
Speaking about micellar water (aka makeup remover), to avoid breakouts and premature aging, you need to know how to use it properly. First of all, you have to understand that makeup removers are not meant to be left on your skin. In fact, pretty much all these products are mixtures of water and soap and a lot of them have no nourishing ingredients for your skin. So you should under no circumstances leave makeup remover on your skin. Therefore, we recommend using micellar water to remove makeup and then washing your face with gentle soap to cleanse it completely.
Use gentle soap
We have already repeated multiple times that you need to wash your face with gentle soap, but we are sure that many of you still struggle to understand what gentle soap actually is. Well, it’s all about the pH level - it either has to be neutral or physiological. Most dermatologists and cosmetologists say that products with pH 5-5.5 are ideal for our skin, but it is also okay to use products with pH levels between 4.5 and 6.5. Everything that is below these numbers is too acidic and cannot be used on a regular basis. At the same time, products with a pH above 7 (by the way regular soap has a pH level of 12) are alkaline and they also cannot be used every day. So why does pH level matter? Everything is very simple - acidic or alkaline products damage our natural skin barrier, which leads to irritation, breakouts, and peeling. So although we still use highly acidic and alkaline skincare products, these cannot be used every day.
Avoid hot water
Another important thing you have to remember is that you need to use room-temperature water to wash your face. As a matter of fact, neither hot nor cold water has any benefits for your skin. Moreover, using hot water irritates your skin and provokes the overproduction of oils, which results in breakouts and clogged pores. So avoid boiling hot water and wash up only with room-temperature water.
Exfoliate
Last but not least, exfoliation. This very procedure helps remove dead skin cells and cleanse deeper layers of skin. Of course, exfoliation cannot be done every day because it is an aggressive procedure. We recommend doing it once a week. Another thing you want to pay attention to is the products you use for exfoliation - we do not recommend using mechanical scrubs because there is no way to control the level of exfoliation in different spots. Instead, you can use acids, but make sure to use the one for your skin type. Besides, you also need to apply moisturizer right after exfoliating as well as use sunscreen. If you do everything right, the results will stun you.
Wrapping up
As you can see, proper skin cleansing is actually not as simple as many people think. However, if you cleanse your skin correctly, you will avoid premature aging and clogged pores, as well as have glowy and healthy skin. So why don’t you start now?
